Urban Churches’ Theologians
Following a strategic review, Leeds Church Institute has refocused its work to support a defined group of urban churches in Leeds. The creation of two posts of Urban Churches’ Theologian is central to LCI’s plans to accompany, understand and theologically resource the city’s churches.
These appointments represent an unusual and exciting opportunity to become part of a small community of reflective learning and action, committed to discerning opportunities for theological development allied to social justice.
LCI has been serving Leeds for 170 years and this latest iteration of our work puts local churches and their needs at the heart of our mission.
The new roles will involve:
Working with an ecumenical range of churches in Leeds
Using sophisticated listening and facilitation skills to sensitively accompany churches
Providing creative and innovative theological resources
Drawing on a broad and effective knowledge of theological research
Being part of a small and supportive team committed to critical reflection
Acting in support of church activities and service to the community
Making relevant links to our local universities and places of learning
While our activities are focused within Leeds, learning generated through our work is shared more widely. In our new strategy these opportunities are likely to increase, and dissemination of learning is a key part of our approach.
The CEO and Trustees of LCI are looking for highly capable theologians who are equally at home in the academy and the community. These two posts offer a rare opportunity to ground theological development in the life of churches and work with local people to discover where faith finds expression in sustaining justice for all.
